Why Your Garage Door Remote Stops Working

A garage door remote that stops working is one of the most common service calls we get. Before calling, try these fixes: 1. Replace the Batteries — This solves the problem 50% of the time. Use fresh alkaline batteries. 2. Check the Range — Walk closer to the door and try again. Obstructions or interference can reduce range. 3. Reprogram the Remote — If batteries and range aren't the issue, try reprogramming the remote to the opener. 4. Check for Interference — LED bulbs in the opener can interfere with the remote signal. Try replacing with incandescent or specially designed LED bulbs. 5. Inspect the Antenna — The antenna wire hanging from the opener must be fully extended and pointed downward. 6. Check the Lock Button — Some keypads have a lock feature. If it's activated, no remote will work. 7. The Remote May Be Damaged — If it's been dropped or gotten wet, internal circuitry may be damaged.
