Post-Storm Garage Door Inspection Checklist

New Jersey storms — from nor'easters to summer thunderstorms — can do real damage to garage doors. Here's what to inspect after every major storm: Visual Inspection: - Look for visible dents, cracks, or bent panels - Check for debris in the tracks or under the door - Inspect weatherstripping for tears or separation - Look for water intrusion under or around the door Operational Test: - Open and close the door manually first - Then test with the opener - Listen for new sounds (grinding, scraping, banging) - Watch for uneven movement Hardware Check: - Inspect cables for fraying or displacement - Check that springs are intact - Make sure the bottom bracket is secure Sensor Check: - Wipe sensor lenses clean - Test auto-reverse with a 2x4 If Anything Seems Off: Don't use the door until it's been inspected professionally. Operating a compromised door can cause further damage or injury. We offer post-storm emergency inspections throughout Ocean County and Monmouth County, NJ.
