How to Handle a Garage Door Emergency
Whether it's a spring that snaps at midnight or a door that won't close before a storm, knowing what to do in a garage door emergency matters.
If Your Spring Breaks:
- Do NOT try to operate the door — it will be extremely heavy
- Use the manual release cord to disconnect the opener
- Keep children and pets away
- Call for emergency service
If Your Door Won't Close:
- Check the sensors first — wipe them clean and realign
- Look for obstructions in the door's path
- If a cable is visibly broken, don't force it
- If it's a security concern, use C-clamps on the track to hold it closed temporarily
If Your Car Is Stuck Inside:
- Pull the red emergency release cord to go manual
- Lift the door by hand (get help if it's heavy)
- Call us immediately after
At 1 Garage Doors, we offer 24/7 emergency service throughout NJ.
