5 Reasons Your Garage Door Won't Open (And How to Fix Them)

There's nothing more frustrating than pressing your remote and nothing happens. Before you panic, here are 5 common culprits: 1. Dead remote batteries — The simplest fix. Replace the batteries and try again. 2. Misaligned safety sensors — Look for the two small sensors near the floor on each side of the door. If one is blinking, they're out of alignment. 3. Disconnected power — Check that your opener is plugged in and the circuit breaker hasn't tripped. 4. Broken torsion spring — If you hear a loud bang, the spring may have snapped. Do not try to operate the door. 5. Locked door — Some doors have a manual lock that can accidentally engage. If none of these solve it, it's time to call a professional.
